JOHN's birth place is listed as South Carolina. Mary's is listed as North Carolina. JOHN W. is listed as having been born in N.C. JOHN is listed as being a farmer , in household #742 The location of their home in the census seems to be in the Glen Aire area. The 1860 Yancey Co. Census lists Elizabeth Street living in the household with JOHN and MARY MCKINNEY. The 1880 Mitchell Co., N.C. Census lists three grandchildren in the household. Their names are LYDIA age 2, LEONARD age 2, and JAMES age 5. In all census reports(other than 1850) JOHN is listed as being born in N.C., rather than S.C. The TAYLOR family came to Carter Co.,TN, in the 1770's. They were wealthy, owning extensive land holdings south of the Watauga River. They had iron works, delt in slave trade, were merchants, lawyers, and prominent in public life at county, state and national levels. ANDREW TAYLOR, SR. was a surveyor of national repute, and at one time surveyed the lines between Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, at an early date. ANDREW was born in Ireland, but reared in Rockbridge Co., VA, and educated at Liberty Hall near Lexington, VA. He served in the Rev. War under John Sevier at the Battle of Kings Mt. In 1776, ANDREW purchased 670 acres of land on Buffalo Creek near the Watauga Settlement. In 1779, he was appointed tax assessor for Washington Co's 1st and 5th districts. In 1784 he was a deligate to the first Constitutional Convention for the State of Franklin. He is buried on a hll overlooking Powder Branch. ''Relief, NC got its name from Dr. Hart's Great Relief, a patent medicine which was distributed from Sanford Chamberlain and Albers Proprietors, Knoxville, TN, and widely used by anyone feeling a mite puny and who needed relief''. ( Heritage of theToe River Valley, by Lloyd Bailey, p.28, V.1]. It is believed Hart's father was also a medical doctor. Possible last name was once Eberhart when the family came from Germany. He was born in KY, his parents born in Maryland (according to 1880 N.C. Census).
His given name may have been RICHARD or RAYMOND. His son, DAVID COLUMBUS HART's death record states his father was Richard Hart born in Indiana. Death time and place is not known for Dr. Hart.
