Samuel owned 640 plus acres of land in Greesy Cove on Indian Creek and Nolichucky River. Of this land 640 acres are recorded in Land Grant Entries, Washington Co., TN Records; entry #1024, Dist. no. 7, 5/4/1850). The census for 1850, states SAMUEL was a manufacter of buckets . Proof of Samuel Williams Bogart as son of Jeremiah is found in a deed for land from Samuel W. Bogart to George Bogart, (Washington Co., TN Deed Bk. 32, pp 332-333.) which states "land previously owned by and now held by heirs of Jeremiah Bogart of which Samuel William Bogart is one". Family oral history says SAMUEL W. was killed by soldiers during the Civil War.

JOHN was a Justice of the Peace during the State of Franklin period. He was also, a missionary for the Church of the Brethern. And Governor JOHN SEVIER appointed him Magistrate at the first WA. Co. Court after the State Constitution was formed.

Will on file- Book 1, page 113, Washington County, TN, date Feb. 16, 1816, settled Nov. 12, 1817.

In 1790, he had 109 acres on the north side of Knob Creek (Washington Co. Courthouse Records).
JOHN was buried in the HAMMER Cemetery located on the hill at Old Stage Road across from the home of his son, ISSAC HAMMER.

In 1875, MARY and EZEKIEL BIRCHFIELD purchased land on Broad Branch adj. lands of Wesley Garland and JOHN BIRCHFIELD. Two deeds show a total of 75 acres purchased from DAVID and ELIZABETH JANE GARLAND. Mitchell Co. NC. Deed Bk. 15, page 297-298. However, EZEKIEL and MARY BIRCHFIELD are shown in the 1850 U.S. census in Yancey Co.,NC {now Mitchell Co.} living next to JOHN BIRCHFIELD and family. In the 1860 U.S. Census, they are living in Fork Mt. of the same county. 1880 U.S. Census MARY and EZEKIEL are still living in Mitchell Co. NC. They were not in the 1870 Census for Mitchell Co.NC.
