WILLIAM ISAAC MCKINNEY ("IKE") died of a massive heart attack , age 43, at Fort Benning, Ga. He was born in Magnatic City (Buladean) Mitchell Co., NC, but lived in Johnson City, TN., most of his life. IKE was a fireman[captain]with the Johnson City Fire Dept. for 12 years. In the 1930-31 Johnson City Directoy, he is listed as a fireman living on Maple Street. In the 1935 JC Directory he is listed as a captain with the Fire Dept. (Engine Co #3), and living with wife, Mildred at 718 Fairview Av. in Johnson City . In the 1937 Directory he is still with the Fire Dept., and and also listed as a merchant . A the beginning of WWII, he accepted a Federal Civil Service position as assistant fire chief at Camp Forrest, near Tullahoma, TN. He remained there, becoming the fire chief, until the close of the war. After the war, he was transfered to Fort Benning, GA. where he died. He was active in the Masonic Order during his lifetime. Ike was of the Methodist faith.
