MARY P. GARLAND MCKINNEY's GARLAND family line goes back to GUTHRIDGE and BRIDGET HAMPTON GARLAND. GUTHRIDGE was an early pioneer in Washington Co, [NC, TN]. Bridget was the granddaughter of Col. ANDREW HAMPTON of the Rev. War. MARY was born and grew up in what is now Buladean, NC. She lived most of her life in Johnson City., TN where her husband, ISAAC, owned a grocery store on Maple Street. MARY died at the Memorial Hospital, and is buried in the MCKINNEY family plot in Monte Vista Cemetery in Johnson City. LLOYD GLYNN SLAGLE, great grandson of MILLIE MCKINNEY WEBB, visited his greatgrandmother when he was a child. He said she was very old and blind. However, she could feel of his face and tell who he was. When she died she was over 100 years old (believed to have been 104) She was a member of th Cub Creek Baptist Church until in 1915, when she moved to Red Hill, NC, where she joined the Presbyterian Church. She was known to have been a very industerious person. She carded, spun, wove and tailored clothes for her family. She and SYLVESTER C. WEBB were married for over 50 years before his death in 1923.
